How to Use BJJ Games

IF YOU'RE A STUDENT

If your coach doesn't use games, here’s a simple trick to help with implementing game-based training: during live rounds, ask your partner to start in a position or situation and then play one of our games (or modify to make your own variations). Don't tell him what you're trying to do; just stick to your objective and respect the constraints.

If you have some mat space at home and you can practice with one of your friends, pick three to five games and work them for about an hour (we recommend six to ten minutes per game).

You’ll start seeing pretty significant progress within just a handful of sessions. Remember, never stop playing games!

IF YOU'RE A COACH AND WANT TO START IMPLEMENTING GAMES

Here is how I run a typical class: 3, 5 minute rounds of Wrestling Games 4, 5 minute rounds of Passing Games ~30 minutes of technique 3, 5 minute rounds of Pins and Leglock Games 4, 5 minute competition-style rounds. No warm-up BS, no nonsense, just efficient work!
